Lumbo Rollers

A local softball team consisting primarily of architects and designers. The origin of their name is a long story that I can't quite remember now. However, they were quite clear about the required elements: a fish, a cocktail of some sort, and a phrase that holds historical meaning to the founding players.

Research & Inspiration: Constructivism, The Bauhaus, and De Stijl were among the first sources of inspiration for this project. The goal was to reference recognizable themes of art and architecture, but to infuse that with a bit of humor—a kind of inside joke that other teams in the league would also respond to, because softball is an outlet for fun, friendly competition, and cameraraderie...a release from the daily business of Architecture and Design.
Having visited the Pavillion Le Corbusier in Zürich years earlier, I remembered "Le Modulor"; Corbusier's system of anthropometric scale and proportion, utilizing his drawing of a man with a raised arm. What struck me, of course, was the oddly large rendering of the hand—more like a claw, but perfectly suited to be transformed into a softball glove!
